The qualities of light and weather conditions in the landscape make “plein air” a defiant manner of painting. Add to it the inconsistency of the moving dancers, and you have a theater like setting to draw or paint from. The need to work quickly requires that the technique and approach adopted be distinct from studio painting. This workshop will guide artists on the formal elements of spatial construction on site. Students will be shown how to observe light (value) and movement, while emphasizing how the moving subjects point to a way of drawing or painting that requires attention to detail and freedom to be able to create. The technical method will stem from the 18th century open air tradition to 19th century impressionism while also encouraging the observation of this setting to learn how to abstract based on emotion, while emphasizing the importance of color when creating any work of art and the role of the artist when making those decisions.
WORKSHOPS IN PUBLIC SPACES

This workshop starts in the fall of 2025
